Acts 17:16
16 While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was greatly distressed to see that the city was full of idols.
- Part of the 10 commandments, is to worship no other God. Meaning there are other gods
- Our God is jealous
Saints: people who are saved with separation and holy life
Psalms 50:5
“Gather to me this consecrated people,
who made a covenant with me by sacrifice.”
1 Corinthians 8:10
10 For if someone with a weak conscience sees you, with all your knowledge, eating in an idol’s temple, won’t that person be emboldened to eat what is sacrificed to idols?
- We who know should not be entertaining these false worship
- Others are observing the life of a Christian and therefore we must live according to the work of God.
Paul is a great example showcasing someone who had world assets however when he came to Christ he found it all to be worthless. Paul had knowledge, power and wealth:

- Went to work (Acts18:3)
Philippians 3:1-4
“Further, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you. 2 Watch out for those dogs, those evildoers, those mutilators of the flesh. 3 For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh— 4 though I have reasons for such confidence. If someone else thinks they have reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more“
7 But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.
2 Corthianian 5:1 – Body is a tent
“For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.“
Paul’s knowledge – part of the council, knew the book of Moses went to Athens and spoke in greek.
Idol food (1 Corinthian 8:8)
8 But food does not bring us near to God; we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.
